Update (December 1, 2012) On The Status of Vertex Pharmaceuticals’ Orphan Drug Kalydeco (Ivacaftor) In The UK

       The following are updates as of December 1, 2012, for the status of bringing Vertex Pharmaceuticals’ orphan drug Kalydeco (Ivacaftor) for Cystic Fibrosis (CF) to the UK : 

1)  November 22, 2012, the Cystic Fibrosis Trust UK issues an update stating that the organization is still “ …. waiting to hear whether CPAG has issued its recommendation on the funding of Kalydeco to commissioners since its statement last month which stated that this was due to be made in mid-November …”. 

2)  November 30, 2012, the Cystic Fibrosis Trust UK issues an update saying that a final decision on the funding of Kalydeco in England is pushed back until January 2013. Mention was also made that the Scottish Medicines Consortium (SMC) is expected to make a final decision on January 14, 2013.
