Orphan Drugs: Upcoming September 2013 Summit

Despite great focus on orphan drugs in recent years there is still much to learn

The topic of rare diseases has rightfully been in the spotlight in recent years. Large companies have established specific divisions and patent organizations have increased support and education. The need for faster drug development is being helped by new models emerging and the industry is working more closely with patient advocacy group. However, challenges still remain when it comes to addressing the medical needs of patients with rare diseases.

Next month, the Orphan Drugs Summit will take place in Copenhagen. This event has been running for 3 consecutive years and has been established as an important platform where small and big pharmaceutical companies, hospital representatives, researchers, patient organizations, venture capitalists, regulatory bodies, industry associations discuss and influence the future of orphan drugs.

The summit is designed to increase interaction among participants, promote knowledge flow and instigate partnerships and alliances for those working with orphan drugs.
