Rare Diseases: Awards

The following are just a few of the awards in the field of rare diseases that are available to patient advocates, patients, and physicians/scientists/researchers :

EURORDIS

EURORDIS, “the voice of rare disease patients in Europe”, announces at the beginning of September, the 3rd edition of the EURORDIS Awards. The awards recognize outstanding accomplishments, excellence, and leading work in the field of rare diseases. One can submit a nomination for any or all of the following categories by October 31, 2013:

•   European Rare Disease Leadership
•   Policy Maker
•   EURORDIS Volunteer
•   Patient Organization
•   Scientific
•   Media
•   Company
•   Lifetime Achievement.

The nominees are announced in January 2014, with the final winners presented on Rare Disease Day 2014.

Uplifting Athletes

Uplifting Athletes, is a national nonprofit organization aligning college football with rare diseases and raising them as a national priority using outreach, research, education, and advocacy.

The Rare Disease Champion Award 2014 is given:

“ … to a leader in college football, individual, or organization, who has realized his or her potential to make a positive and lasting impact on the rare disease community … Last year the Uplifting Athletes Rare Disease Champion was decided by more than 76,000 nationwide … ”.

The award nominations are due by December 6, 2013. The winner is determined by public vote online during January 2014, with the announcement of the winner on February 1, 2014.

RareVoice Awards

RareVoice awards are individuals and organizations who advocate for legislation and policy that benefits the rare disease community:

•   Members of Congress or Congressional Staff
•   Patient Advocate or Patient Organization
•   Government Agency Staff.

RareVoice Award nominations are open to the public. Nomination applications are now currently being reviewed by the Nomination Committee. Winners are announced at the Gala Ceremony on October 10, 2013.

ROAR Awards

Terrapinn announces the launch of the ROAR (Rare & Orphan Advocacy and Research) Awards.  The 2013 ROAR Awards are an opportunity to recognize and honor achievements in the last year, of contributions made by organizations and individuals from the commercial, patient, and rare disease advocacy communities. Ten awards are open for nomination with a deadline of October 1, 2013.

The ROAR Awards are to be announced at the 4th Annual World Orphan Drug Congress Europe, November 14-15, 2013, in Geneva, Switzerland. The ROAR Awards for North American stakeholders are to be launched for April 2014.
